Please join us for our 3nd Annual February Food Drive. We tend to think about donating around the holidays, but collecting food for those who are in need is important at all times of the year.
This year, in addition to collecting non-perishable food items, we will also have donation jars at every counter. A donation of $1.00 buys 3 pounds of food, $5.00 buys 15 pounds of food, $10.00 buys 30 pounds of food, $20.00 buys 60 pounds of food, etc. Help fight hunger in our community.
All items donated will be delivered to Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.
Every year about 785,000 people have a first heart attack and another 470,000 people who have already had one or more heart attacks have another attack. Scary? Yes, we think so...
Being heart healthy all starts with a healthy diet and lifestyle. It's often tough to change eating habits and get motivated to exercise but our long term health depends on it.
The American Heart Association suggests getting 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise a week, such as power walking. That is just over 20 minutes a day! Exercising your body means you are exercising your heart. You don't need a gym, just some motivation and a good pair of walking shoes.
Heart Healthy Diet Tips:
Think whole grain and high-fiber!
Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables every day.
Try to eat fish at least twice a week. If this is not an option, consider taking an Omega-3 Fatty Acid (fish oil) supplement.
Avoid trans-fats.
Saturated fat intake should be less than 7% of your calories in one day. Saturated fat is found in things like meat, cheese and butter.
Consume less than 150 mg of cholesterol a day.
Try to limit your sodium to 1500 mg a day.
